Event OutlineFrequently Asked Questions
How do I enter? Place your entry to the Tour through the entry page on this website. The Tour is only open to riders who are licensed through Cycling Australia (CA) or the equivalent national body. If you wish to ride the tour you should first join a Cycling Club and obtain a CA licence. International riders who are licenced through their national governing body are eligible to ride. All riders are able to enter through the online system. Riders who do not wish to enter online should download the hard copy entry form and submit a postal entry with accompanying payment in Australian dollars. Please note that postal entries attract an additional administration fee. All riders will be required to provide their license when signing on for the Tour
When will entries close? Entries will officially close on 22 June 2008. You will still be able to enter after this date but a $40 late entry fee will apply.
Are there any limits on field sizes? No the Stromlo Criterium course is a large and safe course and will be able to handle field sizes as large as any we expect for the Tour. The capacity of the Criterium course has been the main reason fields have been restricted in previous years.
Do I need a Cycling Australia License to race? Yes only CA licensed riders, or international riders licensed through their National body, are permitted to race in the Tour. As the Tour also doubles as the ACT Road and Criterium Championships riders are not permitted to ride under a day license. You should seek to obtain membership of your local cycling club before entering the Tour.
What restrictions on equipment are applied? Racing is conducted in accordance with CA Technical Regulations which can be obtained from the Cycling Australia website.

Do you have information on the courses that will be used for the Tour? In 2008 the Tour will be raced over roads that are closed to traffic, other than local and emergency traffic, and as an additional safety measure speed limits will be temporarily reduced from 100kph to 60kph. The courses for all categories have been posted on this site. Race distances are similar to the 2007 Tour. New in 2008 will be the addition of a Criterium stage for the Under 19 Men and Women and Open Women, to add these races to the program, Saturday's road race for these groups needed to be reduced in distance. For complete information see the Stages & Results section of the site.
Are interstate riders eligible for medals in the ACT Championship races? Yes all participating riders are eligible to win Medals and be known as the ACT Champion. Championship races only apply to the Junior categories.
Can I or someone I am travelling with help with the Tour? Yes we would appreciate any help you can provide. This is a large tour and places heavy demands on the ACT's pool of volunteers. We always need spares vehicles, marshalls, drivers for Commissaires and a myriad of other assistants. If you or someone in your party are able to assist please complete the volunteers section in your online entry or contact us through the website and indicate your preferred duties.
What time will racing finish on Sunday? Since Sunday afternoon is the Individual Time Trial for Under 11 through to Under 17 the time racing finishes for individual riders will vary based on their category. The last category to race will be JM17 and it is expected that the last rider will have left the course by 4PM.
Accommodation in the ACT? There are many accommodation options in the ACT but you should book early as it can become scarce during major events or when Parliament is sitting. The popular standby accommodation site wotif provides a convenient listing of available accommodation. Popular accommodation choices include the Diplomat Hotel, Motel Monaro, Sundown Motel Resort or Medina Classic Canberra. If searching for accommodation the Kingston and Manuka areas are probably most convenient providing easy access to the racing and a large number of accommodation and restaurant options.
